Product Information

A rotary disc filter is used for advanced wastewater treatment and water reuse. The microfiltration rotary disc filter traps suspended solids on the microporous cloth covering the discs, while the fiber rotary disc filter is the most common type. It uses fiber media on the disc surface, giving high filtration precision and good water permeability. The unit is compact and takes up much less space than a traditional sand filter. With its automatic backwash system, it can run continuously with minimal supervision, often placed after biological tanks for final polishing.

Working Principle

Wastewater enters the filter tank and flows from the outside to the inside of the fiber cloth on the discs. Suspended solids get trapped on the outside, while clean water flows into the central collection pipe and exits. As trapped material builds up, the water level difference across the discs rises. When the pressure differential hits the set point or the backwash timer kicks in, the unit starts backwashing automatically. During backwashing, some discs rotate, and high-pressure water sprays from the inside out to wash off the debris, while concentrated sludge is discharged. The whole process requires no shutdown—the water supply stays uninterrupted.

Application Fields

1.Plant upgrades: deep filtration of secondary clarifier effluent to replace traditional sand filters.
2.Industrial wastewater: polishing after biological treatment in printing, dyeing, and papermaking to lower turbidity.
3.Membrane pre-treatment: protecting UF or RO systems to delay membrane fouling.
4.Water reuse: deep purification to ensure clear, compliant reused water.

FAQ

Q1: What is the typical filtration rating of a rotary disc filter?
A: Common ratings are around 10–20 microns, and some special fiber cloths can reach 5 microns. Tighter ratings catch finer particles, but backwashing becomes more frequent. Selection depends on influent quality and reuse requirements.

Q2: What are the advantages of a fiber rotary disc filter over a traditional sand filter?
A: The main one is footprint. The discs are arranged vertically, taking up a fraction of the space of a traditional sand filter. Also, sand filters use a lot of backwash water, while a rotary disc filter uses only 1%–3% of the total production, making it much more water-efficient.

Q3: What water source is used for backwashing?
A: It typically draws directly from the clean water zone at the rear of the filter tank, so no separate clean water source is needed. A backwash pump pressurizes it to spray the discs, which saves external water supply and creates an internal water loop.
